Some tips to check for
defects in the motor (search our blog for more tips and information on how to
test motors)
How to check if the treadmill motor is faulty:
a. The motor is short-circuited between the frame and red or black
wires: often the output power source of the motor board burns (this can also be caused
by a defect in the controller), or the house circuit breaker skips, or the board
shorts and the motor is always at full speed (this can also be caused by a
defect in the controller).
b. The engine loses its magnetism, the motor has no strength: this
happens when the engine is operated for long periods and is overloaded
(overheated); you could also check for unstable performance of the controller,
increases and decreases in the speed of the engine, or the engine "has no
strength." Measure the number of revolutions of the engine to determine if
it is still good
See the example of a 180V/4200RPM motor:
the relationship between
speed and revolutions is proportional
If the measured speed is
outside the range of variation (5%), the motor should be replaced.
c. The motor brushes are defective: if the brushes are not inserted
correctly or their surface is not smooth, it can cause sparks and noise while working.
The defective brushes should be replaced and you should run the engine 1-2
hours at full speed before using the treadmill.
d. Shorted or broken windings, abnormal consumptions: in the case of
individual windings shorting or breaking the motor returns generally abnormal
consumptions (greater than 1.5 A with the motor connected to the belt, or
greater than 500mA with the motor disconnected - and not connected to the belt) or
fails to comply with the number of revs. This is more risky because the motor
could start (maybe help it by pushing it) but it will quickly damage the board.

Display works; treadmill won't rotate. Display proceeds as if a run is in progress and treadmill intermittently kicks-in.
ReplyDeleteHowever when that happens it short circuits power to house!!
Please help someone!!!
Hi what happens is you disconnect motor cables (m+/m-)?
ReplyDeleteIf there is voltage at the output faston m+ / m-, then the controller is OK and the motor is faulty.
If there is no voltage, the controller is faulty. It's suggested to test the motor as well because the controller fault may have been caused by the motor.
Hi, I have a Carl Lewis Power Runner. Says model 006 on the side, next to the power button.
ReplyDeleteWorks fine, except the LCD panels don't work. The lights to show the current speed, and the speed selection works fine, but the speed, distance etc don't work at all.
Hi, probably there is some cable disconnected inside the console. You may take a look at this service
